This second module is designed to help you break patterns and habits that no longer serve your life’s purpose. Imagine pulling back a rubber band or a sling shot, using all the strength you can muster in the opposite direction of your life’s purpose. Sounds contradictory, right? This creates the necessary force and escape velocity that will launch you in a new direction - a cohesive, powerful vector created by your life’s purpose. This exercise needs strength and fortitude. It requires looking at all the areas of your life that aren’t working well. While necessary, this likely will not be a pleasant process for the next two days.
Don’t worry, though! Day Six will bring a huge release, like a rapid firing, when you let go of the rubber band and start creating an aligned life of purpose. So, please bear with the process. Call on your support system as necessary.
Please complete your Morning Purpose Ritual, and re-write your Purpose Statement.
Purpose Challenge Map Exercise
This exercise is designed to give you a comprehensive overview of your life - the extent to which your life is driven by and aligned with purpose, and the extent to which it’s not. You’ll have a bird’s eye view of your life and discover the areas where you can develop a deeper relationship with your life’s purpose.
You’ll need your journal and a pen.
Create a table with four columns:
In the Life Area column, add the following seven key life areas in each row:
For each life area, write one to five words or key phrases that describe what is going well in that area.
Next, write one to five words or key phrases about what isn’t going well. For example, what’s going well and what’s not going well in your career:

Finally, rank each area with a score that describes how aligned with and/or supportive of your life's purpose that particular area is, on a scale of 1 to 10.
This map represents the extent to which your life expresses your purpose, right now. It doesn’t matter if your average score is 1 or 10. In every fully aligned purposeful life, each “10” was once a “1.” What matters is that you now know more than you did before. You have a solid idea of what not living in connection to your life’s purpose is costing you.
A Note on Your Critic
Right now, you might be feeling strong emotions and self-judgment (e.g. “I suck,” “I’m a screw-up,” etc.). You may be comparing your Perfect Day from Day 2 with your actual life and seeing a huge difference. Know that these judgments are normal AND they only represent a tiny part of who you are, your personal Critic. In Module 4, you’ll meet your Critic, understand her/him, and develop tools to work with that critical voice. Until that point, you need to ask for support if you’re feeling stuck, resistant, or finding ways to avoid doing these exercises.
Moving From Awareness to Action
As mentioned, these exercises are crafted intentionally to create tension, pulling back the sling-shot between who you are at the deepest level and what your life actually looks and feels like. This shows you the emotional cost of living life without deep alignment with your purpose and is intended to impel you to finish the Challenge. Please trust that this is a crucial and healthy part of the growth and healing of the purpose-discovery process. Know also that everyone doing these exercises feels some level of resistance. Your experience in the Challenge will get better, but not before it gets worse. These exercises are essential. They’ll show you that your well-being is at stake. So, you really have no other option than to find and live your life’s purpose.
