“I just don't believe that when people are being unjustly oppressed that they should let someone else set rules for them by which they can come out from under that oppression.”

Video #2: Exercises
Please perform your Morning Purpose Ritual.
Today, you’re moving your purpose into action by creating a Purpose Project. While purpose is lived in every context (work, play, love, health, etc.), your Purpose Project is one discrete area you’ll infuse entirely with your purpose, the content of your character, the message of your soul. Though your Purpose Project is a blank canvas and thus, without limits, it must first be discrete and knowable. You’ll begin by getting clear on the group you most want to serve, the group that would bring you most alive to impact positively.
This first piece of the Purpose Project is the Empathy Exercise, which identifies a cause or group of people you most want to connect with and serve with your purpose.
Have a look at your list of 10 things that break your heart from the Day 1 Purpose Triangle Exercise. (If you haven’t yet done this exercise, go back and do to it first.)
Open a new page in your journal and make a list of the three groups of people or causes from your heartbreak list that you feel most connected to, then rank each group on three factors:
Rate these below on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the highest or strongest:
Now tally up the totals for each group (across), and circle the group with the highest score. This is the group you’ll work with for your first Purpose Project. This is just your first Purpose Project, nothing is written in stone about your purpose. The Purpose Project is your way to play with purpose and learn more about it.
Purpose Project Selection
Now you’ll determine the best ways to serve this group with your Purpose Project. The primary unit of success in your Purpose Project isn’t money, reputation, impact, career advancement, or creating a better relationship, better body or better life. The primary unit of success in your Purpose Project is learning. What you can learn about yourself by living your purpose in the world? What can you learn about the people who you can engage with your life’s purpose?
Purpose is a lifelong relationship and journey, so your Purpose Project doesn’t need to be the perfect expression of who you are in the world. It is merely a way to engage purposefully, so that your next purpose project is even more rewarding, impactful and fulfilling. You have to start somewhere and that begins by choosing your first purpose project based on projected investment (time, money and energy) versus return (learning about your purpose and the group you serve).
Brainstorm 10 ways you can help your empathy group.
From your list of 10, create three columns to the right of this list and rank the projects on a scale of 1 to 5, according to your best guess about:
Total each project up (across). The project with the highest number is your first Purpose Project, allowing you to express your empathy, give your gifts, and leverage your relationships. For example: With US war veterans as the empathy group, this might look like:
