“Hunger only for taste of justice. / Hunger only for a world of truth. / Because, all that you have is your soul.” - Tracy Chapman
As with every day of the Purpose Challenge, please perform your Morning Purpose Ritual.
Today, you’re moving your purpose further into action, by creating a Purpose Project. You’ll begin by getting clear on the group you most want to serve, the group that would bring you most alive to impact positively. Obviously purpose is lived in every context - work, play, love, health, etc., but the Purpose Project is one discrete area that you get to infuse entirely with your purpose, the content of your character, the message of your soul.
Your Purpose Project is a blank canvas, but also one that has to serve your purpose. In this sense, your Purpose Project is illimitable, you can create anything you want. However, it is also incredibly limited, as it must first and foremost be an expression of your purpose.
This first piece of the Purpose Project is the Empathy Exercise. This exercise is about identifying a cause or group of people you most want to connect with and serve with your purpose. Have a look at your list of ten things that break your heart from the Day 1 Purpose Triangle Exercise. (If you haven’t yet done this exercise, go back and do to it first.)
Open a new page in your journal and make a list of the three groups of people or causes from your heartbreak list that you feel most connected to, then rank each group on 3 factors:
Rate these below on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being highest or strongest.
Group: | Empathy (1-5) | Relevance of my gifts (1-5) | Strength of existing relationships (1-5) | Total
Now tally up the totals for each group (across), and circle the group with the highest score. This is the group you’ll work with for your first Purpose Project. This is just your first Purpose Project - nothing is written in stone about your purpose. The Purpose Project is your way to playing with purpose and learning more about it.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s exercise, where you’ll determine the best ways to serve this group with your Purpose Project.
